Last checked: October 2026

Black pork: what to know

Check prices before you order. After a string of overcharging complaints, restaurants must now post their prices, and since August 4, 2026 a restaurant that doesn't, or charges more than posted, can be shut for 5 days on a first offense. Report overcharging to the Jeju tourist hotline: 1533-0082.

Haenyeo are Jeju's women free divers, whose culture is on UNESCO's intangible heritage list. Village haenyeo houses (해녀의 집) serve what they catch: abalone porridge, sea urchin, conch, and octopus. Many close by 17:00–18:00, and some sell porridge only for two or more.
